Spilled Load Leads To Freeway Death

The news of his wife's death devastated Alvin Austin and his two children. Beverly and Alvin had been married 23 years and had two children. He was grief-stricken. He was numb and in shook. Beverly and Alvin had lunch together just a few hours earlier. Now he was sick to his stomach.

Alvin was also mad, really mad. He was mad at the negligence of the truck driver who didn't properly secure a load of signs on his truck before transporting them on the freeway. The load of signs came lose and one of them came through the front windshield of Beverly Austin's car while she was traveling at freeway speeds.

"That sign went through her windshield like a bullet," he said. "You could see it the way the glass was smashed in."

Alvin wanted action taken. He wanted whomever was at fault to be held fully responsible for their negligence. Alvin was referred to Bisnar|Chase by a relative.

When it was over, Alvin said he was impressed with the way the Bisnar|Chase attorneys and staff aggressively went after the responsible company and recovered $1 million for him and his children.

"I was very impressed," he said. "The money won't replace my wife. She was one of a kind - a good woman and a good mother. But it'll help me take care of my kids and secure their future, take care of their education."

But Alvin says the help and emotional support he got from Bisnar|Chase was invaluable.

"I didn't have to move a finger," he said. "They took care of the foot work, the paperwork, everything. I could count on them for anything. And that's exactly what I needed at the time. They took a big load off of my shoulders."

Mr. Austin was more pleased that he was able to hold the negligent company accountable, than he was about the amount of money recovered. The value of Beverley's life and the families suffering was symbolically compensated for by the financial recovery. The compensation, was also an acknowledgement, by the wrongdoers, of their negligence and a symbol of atonement. Both of which were important and valuable to Alvin.

It was an honor to represent you Alvin. Thank you for the opportunity to assist you and your family during a difficult time. It was my pleasure to bring some measure of justice and finality to this portion of your family's loss.
