A 59-year-old Long Beach man was driving on Long Beach Boulevard when another car ran a red light on Pacific Coast Highway and slammed into him. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to get him out of his car, as well as the two passengers. The driver died from his injuries.

The driver of the other car tried to run away but was arrested by the police.

He was booked for suspicion of driving under the influence, felony hit and run and gross vehicular manslaughter. An investigation is continuing that could lead to murder charges being filed, Zapalski said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision was asked to call Detective Raymond Dennison at (562) 570-7355.

The accident happened early Sunday morning. The police are still investigating the accident.
