Hit-And-Run Fatal Pedestrian Accident Near Union Station

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run auto accident early this morning while she was crossing the street in downtown Los Angeles, near Union Square according to the Los Angeles Police as reported by KCAL news.
Ruby Rollins, 57, of Bakersfield was struck by a sports utility vehicle while crossing the street in the 800 block of North Alameda Street about 5 a.m. She was struck by a northbound SUV, which was reported to be a gray Toyota Sequoia, the police said.
The SUV apparently made a U-turn after hitting the women, drove passed the scene of the accident where the women was laying, and continued on before making a right turn onto Los Angeles Street.
The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting that anyone with any information regarding this fatal pedestrian accident call Central Traffic detectives Felix Padilla or Josephine Mapson at (213) 972-1825 or (877) 529-3855.
Nationwide, pedestrian auto accident fatalities have been on the decline from a high of 8,096 in 1979 to a low of 4,763 in 2000. Sixty-nine percent of all pedesdrian fatalities in 2004 were males. Senior citizens, 70 and older, have the highest rate of fatalities among pedestrian grouped by age. An alarming 40% of all children under 16 pedestrian fatalities occur in a four hour window from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. These statistics are according to the National Center For Statistics and Analysis.
Please where reflective or highly visible clothing when walking at dusk or when dark. Assume that vehicle drivers do not and can not see you when walking. Protect yourself.
