A man living in Long Beach, but originally from Mexico, was hit by a car and killed in Long Beach last month. The pedestrian accident happened on Del Amo Boulevard. The driver of the car fled the scene, but later turned himself into the police.

It was still unclear whether Wilcher should have seen and avoided the victim. According to Jason Evans, an LBPD spokesman, the pedestrian was crossing mid-block and was not in a cross-walk at the time. Either way, however, it is a crime to leave the scene of an accident, Evans said.

The driver has been charged with felony hit-and-run for the accident. He has other criminal charges on his record.
