A man from Hawaiian Gardens lost control of his vehicle and drove down a 59-foot embankment in Long Beach. The 32-year-old man was killed. His passenger was uninjured.

The single-car accident occurred at about 8:39 p.m. Saturday on Wardlow Road, west of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, said Officer Jason Evans, Long Beach Police Department spokesman.

The 2001 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound on Wardlow Road at a high rate of speed and the driver apparently lost control, Evans said.

The police have not released the victims name. They are still investigating the accident and ask anyone that may have witnessed it to contact them.
