Pismo Beach Car Accident Kills Woman

A 72-year-old woman from Bakersfield was killed when the car she was a passenger in plunged down a cliff at Pismo Beach. The car was driven by the victim's husband. It took rescue crews an hour to get both people out of the car.

Witnesses said the car was in the parking lot at the Pelican Point restaurant in Pismo Beach when the driver apparently lost control. They said he was trying to park when he inadvertently pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, sending the Toyota Camry through a fence and off a 60-foot cliff.

The driver is in critical condtion at an Arroyo Grande hospital. The victim died at the scene. The accident happened Sunday afternoon.
