A man from Yountville was driving his motorcycle in Napa along Dry Creek Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The motorcycle accident happened on Sunday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Berger said the man ran off the roadway and went into an embankment.

"We suspect speed was involved as well as possible DUI," Berger said. "Folks on the scene smelled alcohol on the guy."

The man, whose name was not available at press time, sustained major head and internal injuries. Officers closed a stretch of the roadway to make way for a helicopter to land and transport the man to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The 50-year-old man was rushed into surgery for his injuries. The police are investigating the accident.
