On Wednesday morning, a burning jackknifed big rig was found abandoned on Long Beach Freeway, causing the closure of all the southbound lanes for over six hours, said authorities.

The truck was found next to Del Amo Blvd at 2am, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter. The trucked had crashed with a passenger car, according to accident reports from the scene.

When authorities arrived on the scene, the truck driver was missing, said Porter. A search was constructed and area hospitals were contacted in an effort to find him.

All southbound lanes of the Freeway were blocked until 8:20am when two of four lanes were reopened, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The truck had been transporting products for Costco Wholesale Corp., Porter said.
